Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge

The funnel, and tipping bucket mechanism of the of the Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge should be cleaned with a hot wet cloth to remove any dust or dirt build up. The tipping bucket mechanism should not be touched with bare fingers as oil from the fingers will contaminate the Teflon coating. The Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge should be checked for correct operation.

Checking the Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge

• To perform this check you will require a Multi meter and a 10ml pipette (These are available from your Weather-Pro agent)
• Disconnect the Tipping Bucket Rain Gauge from the Weather-Pro weather station
• Make sure the tipping bucket is empty and dry
• Set the multi meter to Continuity Test
• Monitor the continuity between pin 3 and 4
• This should be normally open (no connection)
• Drip 10ml of water from the pipette into the funnel
• The bucket should tip and the multi meter indicate a closed contact when the last drop falls into the rain bucket

If any problems are found while checking the Tipping Bucker Rain Gauge the bucket mechanism should be replaced. A Tipping Bucker Rain Gauge maintainance kit with all parts required and full instructions is available from your Weather-Pro agent.
